Police Rule Self-Defense In Deadly Shooting Of Family Member During Dispute

WOODBRIDGE, VIRGINIA — On March 5th, police responded to a domestic dispute at a home on Fullerton Rd in Woodbridge, resulting in a fatal shooting. Two family members, including an 80-year-old man, were involved in an escalating verbal argument, ending with one party shot in the upper body. Despite immediate medical attention and hospitalization, the man died from his injuries.

On June 21st, after a thorough investigation, detectives found no evidence of provocation from the elderly family member involved in the shooting. After consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and reviewing the final autopsy report, authorities concluded on August 2nd that the shooting was justified. Hence, no charges will be pressed against the 80-year-old man.

The deceased was identified as Frank Adolf Mateo, 60, of Woodbridge.
