NASHVILLE, TENNESSEE — The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) recently disclosed a road rage incident resulted in a fatal shooting on Sunday which appears to have been a case of self-defense.
As per police reports, a 36-year-old man who was not named shot 71-year-old Alden R. Jones on State Route 45after Jones approached him and his spouse with a gun while waiting at a traffic light, according to WZTV.
Jones had reportedly been driving recklessly, speeding, and cutting off drivers.
When he came to a stop at the light, he went to the car behind him, banging on its window while holding a pistol.
The 36-year-old and his wife were stopped behind those in vehicle Jones had approached and attempted to intervene verbally.
However, Jones turned his attention to the couple and began to walk towards them with his weapon in hand. The unnamed man yelled for Jones to stop, telling him he was armed.
It didn’t matter.
Despite the warning, Jones continued to approach until he was close enough to reportedly cause the 36-year-old to fear for his and his wife’s safety and fire his handgun.
The man and his wife stayed at the scene and cooperated with the police investigation. The testimony of witnesses supported the account of events, and no charges have been filed yet, as the incident is thought to have been an act of self-defense.
