Homeowner Kills One Intruder and Wounds Another during Home Invasion

BATON ROUGE, LOUSIANA – A home invasion in the 3700 block of Eleanor Drive ended with one suspect dead and two others in jail. Police received a call around 7 p.m. on Friday, November 20th, reporting several suspects entering a home.

The homeowner opened fire on the intruders, striking two of them. One of the injured and a third person who was not injured fled the scene in a vehicle and drove to the RaceTrac gas station in the 8000 block of Airline Highway.

Back at the scene, police found Altren Dukes, 19, dead from gunshot wounds. The wounded suspect was transported from the gas station to a local hospital for his gunshot injuries. He has been identified as Ranaud Adams, 22, and has been booked into the Easton Baton Rouge Parish Prison and charged with first-degree murder and home invasion.

Louisiana, like the majority of states in the United States, has a legal doctrine referred to as the rule of felony murder, which states that anyone involved in the commission of a felony can be charged with first-degree murder if any person is killed during or as a result of the crime, even if that person is not directly responsible for the death.

The third suspect, Dewayne Davis, was determined to be a fugitive from West Baton Rouge Parish and was also booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.
