Man Complains To Police That Woman Shot At Him, Fails To Mention He Just Tried To Rob Her At Gunpoint

A man was taking police to the location of a crime that he says happened, where a woman had fired a gun at him. As they were heading to the crime scene, a woman called 911 to report that she just had an encounter with an armed man who tried to rob her, and that she fired in his direction.

Police quickly put two and two together.

Damont Meredith, 21, of Gretna, was arrested and booked with armed robbery and aggravated assault with a firearm, said Capt. Jason Rivarde, spokesman for the JPSO.

During the 911 call, the 28-year-old woman said that the robber had fired at her as she tried to flee, and that she responded with firing a shot of her own.

Meredith had a response, however, and told police that he witnessed the incident but wasn’t a part of it. That fell apart quickly once the woman positively identified Meredith as the person who tried to rob her.

“As she’s describing the guy who shot at her, they realize she’s describing the man who showed them where the initial incident occurred,” a police spokesman said of the incident.

Neither of the two were hit with the gunfire.

Meredith was booked and held without bail.

Being that this was a late-at-night incident, around 11pm, it’s nice to see that this woman was prepared and able to defend herself. You never know when something like this will strike, and it’d be a shame to have the thought of “I wish I had my gun on me.”
