Homeowner Shoots Knife-Wielding Burglar, Because You Don’t Bring A Knife. . .

Published

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA — A man trying to break into a car was shot and wounded after he pulled a knife and advanced on a responsibly-armed, ready-to-fight citizen.

As ABC 7 reports:

Deputies arrived at a home in the 5400 block of Carriage Place around 6:15 a.m. Saturday after receiving reports of shots heard in the area. The homeowner told deputies that he heard noises in his garage and went to investigate the sounds. When he entered his garage, he saw a suspect burglarizing his car. The suspect got out of the car with a knife in hand and advanced toward the homeowner. That’s when the homeowner drew a handgun and fired at the suspect, authorities said.

The suspect ran from the garage, and a car was seen fleeing the area at a high rate of speed. While deputies were at the Carriage Place residence, dispatch was advised that a woman called from a home in Fontana to report that her adult son had been shot.

The son, identified as Eric Hartwick, was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds.

Police did later identify Hartwick that the man was the same one that had pulled a knife on the wrong homeowner.

Bad guys never seem to learn — never bring a knife to a gunfight!

Of course — for that maxim to ring true — responsible citizens need to be armed. Then bad guys will realize that whipping a knife around isn’t going to get what they want.

Will all citizens concealed carry now, or at any point in the near future? Not hardly.

But, for now, we sure can dream.

This is an awesome story! Please share this on Facebook and Twitter and let us know what you think about this shooting, and what happened to the knife-wielding Eric Hartwick.
