[CCW IN ACTION] Stabbing Stopped By Armed Citizen Who Was Passing By

BISMARCK, NORTH DAKOTA — A stabbing incident happened after two drivers stopped in the middle of a busy road and began fighting. It’s unclear who perpetrated the fight but one of them pulled a knife and proceeded to stab the other. Thankfully, a concealed carrier happened to be nearby and held Stabby McStabberson at gunpoint until police arrived.

According to the Bismarck Tribune, the victim of the stabbing was transported to a nearby hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The assailant was charged with aggravated assault and detained.

Road rage is a big deal. People lose their proverbial nuts when faced with a situation that will otherwise resolve itself with patience. Here’s the problem: a concealed carrier isn’t magically vindicated if he gets himself into one of these jams and uses a gun.

We’ve covered cases in the past where a concealed carrier shot another driver in a road rage incident. Justification for using deadly force gets hazy when clear opportunities for de-escalation present themselves.

If you are defending your life, did not provoke a fight, and are trying to get away from an imminent threat, you are taking the proper steps you need and if need be, should defend your life.

If you just want to show off and be Mr. Macho Man Chevy Savage, you’re a dick. And if you find yourself in a confrontation as a result, there’s not going to be too many people who will want to back up your testimony in the District Attorney’s office.

It’s all about mitigating risks. Avoid the fight. Do whatever is necessary to get yourself out of danger. A gun can be a tool in defending your life after all other means of avoiding a confrontation have been exhausted. This should include a call to 9-1-1.

To change gears for a second, this is also a hard situation for a concealed carrier to get in the middle of another group’s fight. Here we are, driving down the road, and we see two people fighting in the middle of the road. One of them has a knife and is stabbing the other one. At this point, it’s pretty clear where defending one’s self and assaulting another person have shifted.

However, it’s darn near impossible to know the situation if it’s just two dudes slugging it out. That’s when it’s best to simply get on the phone with police and continue to observe from a safe distance. Do not put yourself in harm’s way needlessly.

The last thing we want to see is a concealed carrier getting stabbed or shot trying to break up a fight involving two numb skulls. There are much better ways to spend your day. Get on the phone with police and stay safe.
