New Expanding And Fragmenting Rounds Will Have You Drooling

Published

We all like to talk down on .380 ACP rounds.  But what if a .380 ACP round could expand to nearly the size of a child’s fist as it punched through soft tissue?  Well, that would certainly change the game in terms of taking low caliber bullets and making them very good at neutralizing bad guys.  That’s precisely what Operators American Tactical Hardware (OATH) ammunition has done.

Their most recent release unveiled at SHOT Show 2016 is actually a 12 gauge expanding slug that’s frangible and has excellent penetration testing against ballistic gel.  But, they’re actually extremely well known for their handgun variants — everything from .25 ACP to .45.  Enclosed below, for your viewing satisfaction.  OATH variant ammunition on the right and the left.

Just marvel at how those little deadly fingers can break off and just do their own thing.  A bullet that breaks apart in the body is a truly dangerous option for critical self-defense purposes.

As concealed carriers, we constantly stress the importance of using self-defense rounds such as jacketed hollow point or even center pole expanding cartridges like Hydroshok or similar.  One of the great features about OATH ammunition is that they use a frangible brass material that breaks apart when it hits extremely hard objects like concrete and steel.  This means training at close ranges is a lot more safe than with traditional jacketed rounds that can ricochet.

Ricochet is a big threat, too, in home defense situations.  When there is potentially a friendly face on the other side of the drywall, frangible ammunition provides a degree of protection that jacketed hollow points may not.  While it is always strongly urged that judicious aiming and careful marksmanship should precede any such activity, home defense can often be sporadic and hectic.  Having an ammunition that understands that and can clearly perform above specification is definitely a bonus.

Looking at these rounds, it’s very clear OATH ammunition for handguns provides a force multiplier out on the asymmetric battleground of life.

Be advised, if you go to their website they’re experiencing a host of delays as the internet world seems absolutely fascinated or horrified with the potential that these bullets can inflict on foes.
