The Dark And Rare Side Of Concealed Carry Permit Holders: 8-Year-Old Gains Access To Gun, Shoots Self In Finger

CLEVELAND, OHIO — The gun that an 8-year-old boy got a hold of –and ultimately shot himself in the finger with– was owned by a concealed carry permit holder.

The boy used a chair to reach a cabinet where the firearm was stored.

But why does this news article make a point to mention that the gun owner also had his concealed carry permit? Probably because it’s rare, and probably because we should be held to a higher standard.

Why did we use the same wording in our title? Because, again, we should be held to a higher standard as legal gun owners and carriers of our permits. This is a shining example of a completely avoidable discharge of a firearm, and it’s inexcusable.

When these things happen anywhere, they are always made examples of. As they should be. Invest in a safe, for **** sake.

There. Is. No. Excuse.

Take the time and care to secure your firearms when around children. The “accidents happen” excuse is not valid here.
