Convicted Felon Was Still Able To Get Handgun, Tried To Rob Homeowner, Shot Dead By Legal Gun Owner

If this isn’t a case for “criminals will find a way”, I’m not sure what is. It’s also a case for us law-abiding citizens being able to defend ourselves in the face of danger. It doesn’t get much more clear-cut than this.

A homeowner in Nashville was at home with his wife and five children when 26-year-old Jonathan Corke entered the home through an unlocked door and demanded money and other valuables. Corke was armed with a 9mm handgun that he somehow received by bypassing a background check at his local gun shop. For those who just don’t understand that last sentence, it’s sarcasm.

After the homeowner complied with Corke’s demands, he still wanted more. Corke then turned his attention to the man’s wife, who was asleep on the couch when he entered the home. During this time, the homeowner was able to leave and enter his bedroom to retrieve his 45ACP handgun. Hey, I never said criminals were smart.

When he came back to the room, now with his 45, Corke began to raise his 9mm to point it at the homeowner. Unluckily for him, the homeowner was quicker and fired several shots before Corke could even pull the trigger.

Corke was hit multiple times in the arm and hip, and collapsed outside the home while trying to get away. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

So let me get this straight. A convicted felon was somehow able to get his hands on a firearm even though he is legally not allowed to own one. You mean, all of the laws on the books didn’t stop this? How could that be? Sarcasm, sarcasm and some more sarcasm.

Luckily for the homeowner, he took the steps at some point in his life to purchase a firearm to defend himself and his family and because of that, he’s alive today to tell his story.

An even quicker response would have been if the homeowner were carrying his firearm on him during the break-in. Carrying while at home is still on my priority list.
