Kansas City MO Pulls Plug On Open Carry In The City And Cites A Reason Being “Aggressive Open Carry”

The open carry movement that went a little too far (among others) at different times this year is now causing negative effects in other areas of the country. The Mayor of Kansas City, MO has pushed for a ban on open carry in the city, and his reasoning has apparently resulted in a 9-0 vote to do just that.

On the fact sheet that was filed with the proposal by Mayor Sly James, we see the following on the 2nd page:

Is it good for the children?
This legislation will prohibit the open carry of firearms and other weapons in the City. It has recently been shown in other cities that persons engaging in “aggressive open carry” can cause public disturbances. Gun education learned on the streets of a city is not good for children or others. Responsible gun education and use is best learned from persons properly trained in the use of firearms, and not from those who may choose to stretch the limits of responsible gun ownership.

This ordinance is set to take effect in about 10 days.

I would not personally open carry, but that is just my preference. Whether you’re for or against open carry, this example goes to show how a small group of people can have adverse effects on our rights. Irresponsibility gives the green light for legislation like this to pass.
